The health ministry announced on Monday evening that the number of injured stood at 72.

"As of 5.30 Moscow time Tuesday a total of 73 people injured in the Moscow metro exposions remain in the capital"s hospitals," Pavel Kozlov said.

The death toll remains unchanged, at 38 people, he added.

Twin blasts occurred during the rush hour in one of the world"s busiest transport systems on Monday morning.

The first took place at 7:52 a.m. (03:52 GMT) at the Lubyanka station near the former KGB headquarters, which now houses the Federal Security Service. The second bomb detonated some 40 minutes later four stops along the line at Park Kultury station, which is also within walking distance of the Kremlin.
