Zhirkov, who has been filling in for injured England star Ashley Cole at left-back, suffered a calf injury as Chelsea stretched their lead at the top of the English Premier League to four points.

The former CSKA Moscow star put in one of his best performances since joining Chelsea last summer, setting up a goal for Didier Drogba.

Chelsea can however welcome back midfielder Frank Lampard for the last 16 first leg trip to Italy.

CSKA are also in Champions Leg action on Wednesday, when they face Sevilla at home.
