Olympic Games have long become a global...

One of the elements of globalization is the vulnerability of such events, which attract both sports fans and those who would do anything to draw attention to themselves, such as political radicals and terrorists. This is why more and more funds are spent on security.

The Vancouver games have set a new record, as their organizers spent over $930 million on security and hired more than 15,000 security guards, nearly six times more than the number of athletes taking part in the games.

Security measures have greatly complicated life for spectators in Vancouver, who have been recommended to come two hours in advance for indoor events, three hours for outdoor events, and four hours for the opening ceremony of the games.

These measures are enforced not only at the Olympic facilities, but also in surrounding territory, including air and sea, and involve different agencies, in particular the navy.
