Four young people, two males and two females have been detained. Three of them were born in 1987 and one in 1990. One of the boys is a student at the Interior Ministry academy and one of the girls is a student at a Moscow economics and law college.

The source said the assailants fled in a Mitsubishi Lancer after opening fire at the Bibiryevo post. No one was hurt in the attack.

The investigation is ongoing.

Moscow has recently seen a rise in crimes committed with non-lethal weapons designed for self-defense. Guns with rubber bullets are much easier to legally get hold of than normal handguns.

Earlier this month a young woman was injured when a rubber bullet hit her during a row between two men in the Moscow subway.

In December 2009, a man shot dead the driver of a snow plough with a non-lethal weapon after the vehicle scratched his car.
