Canada"s Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir won the gold, with the silver going to Meryl Davis and Charlie White of the United States.
The Russian world champions led after the compulsory dance but dropped to third after the original dance. The positions were unchanged after Monday"s free dance, with the Canadian pair scoring 221.57 points, the Americans 215.74 and the Russians 207.64.
The second Russian pair, Jana Khokhlova and Sergei Novitski, finished ninth with 185.86 points due to a poor score in the free dance, while Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev took 15th place with 163.35 points.
Domnina and Shabalin skated last of the top three pairs, but it was already clear that there was little hope of moving up the rankings. Davis and White went first, setting the bar high for the Canadians with 107.19 points in the free dance, but Virtue and Moir bettered that with 110.42.
