Olympic Games have long become a global...

anti-globalists of all stripes and color who are opposed to the Olympic Games as an element of globalization. However, since many protesters were in Vancouver long before the games, the authorities failed to prevent the anti-globalists" protests. Many local residents joined them being angered by the disruption of their normal life.

The number of protesters reached several thousand, and their meeting on February 13 turned into riots, with stones hurled at police. And they warned that they would not stop at that.

It is unclear how far they may go, but they highlighted the weakness of the security system used at the Olympics and other global events, such as G8, G7 and G20 summits and visits by national leaders, which is becoming increasingly ineffective.

These systems are based on fighting symptoms and not the disease. They are directed at such visible elements of threat as meetings, riots and attacks at facilities. Several agencies have the skills to prevent
