Kyrgyzstan"s first post-Soviet president Askar Akayev, who was toppled in 2005 by Bakiyev, said on Thursday that Bakiyev would find little support in the south.

"I don"t think there will be a civil war. The south will not back Bakiyev, I don"t think there is any confrontation between the north and the south as the protest mood is also strong in the south," Akayev said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Another former Kyrgyz prime minister, Ar-Namys opposition party leader Felix Kulov, said on Thursday that Bakiyev had to resign and go on trial and called for amendments to the Constitution to limit presidential power in the republic.
